Doctor by the Universidad de Valladolid with the thesis El proceso de nacionalización de los ferrocarriles en España historia de las grandes compañías ferroviarias, 1913-1943 2000. Supervised by Dr. Ángel García Sanz.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Arts and a PhD in Economics and Business Studies. He is a Professor of Economic History and Institutions at the University of Valladolid, where he teaches. His main research focuses on the Spanish railway system prior to nationalisation, its regulation, and the history of companies and the public sector. Other current lines of research address technical training, education and economic growth, as well as the years of the Spanish Transition and the process of Spain’s accession to the EEC. He has published extensively in specialist books and journals and has participated in numerous national and international conferences on these topics. He has undertaken research visits to the London School of Economics and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris). He is Vice-President of the Council of the International Railway History Association. He is a member of the Governing Council of the Iberian Association of Railway History, co-editor of the Editorial Board of the journal Transportes, Servicios y Telecomunicaciones, and a member of the advisory committee of Ediciones Universidad de Valladolid. He is currently Head of the Department of Foundations of Economic Analysis and Economic History and Institutions at the University of Valladolid and a member of the Governing Council of the University of Valladolid.
