Doctor by the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela with the thesis Comprensión multifocal de los imaginarios sociales de la biotecnología 2010. Supervised by Dr. Juan Luis Pintos.

I am a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Social Work. I am the Coordinator of the Social Research Unit on Health and Rare Diseases. My primary area of expertise is in the sociology of health, with a particular focus on rare diseases. My research interest has arisen from studying the social impact of techno-scientific activity, population changes (especially, but not exclusively, migration) and the interrelationships between the two, in a broad sense. In addition, I have experience applying hermeneutics as a methodological, epistemological and ontological tool to the study of science and health. I have also worked in semiotics and in qualitative and quantitative research. I have been developing a sociological approach to the knowledge of social reality called multidimensional sociohermeneutics.
