Doctor by the Universidad de Valladolid with the thesis Estudio de las caracteristicas estructurales de peliculas delgadas de YBCO crecidas por PLD 1999. Supervised by Dr. Juan Ignacio Jiménez López.
Bachelor in Physics from the University of Valladolid (1994). PhD in Physics from the University of Valladolid (1999). Postdoctoral research at the IMEM Institute (CNR), Parma, Italy, and at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden, focusing on the characterisation of III-nitride nanostructures using cathodoluminescence and near-field microscopy. Full Professor since June 2025. Specialised in the microscopic analysis of semiconductor materials and semiconductor nanostructures using optical techniques (cathodoluminescence, photoluminescence, micro-Raman spectroscopy, near-field microscopy) and electrical techniques (light- and electron-beam-induced currents). Currently coordinator of the University of Valladolid’s Recognised Research Group “Semiconductor materials and nanostructures for optoelectronics” (GdS-Optronlab) and of the Consolidated Research Unit (UIC) of the Regional Government of Castile and León (UIC-051). Participation as a researcher in over thirty regional, national and European projects. Principal Investigator (PI) of six national projects from the latest calls for proposals. Author of over 130 publications. Participation in over 180 international conferences. Active collaboration with various universities (University of Valencia, University of Barcelona, Autonomous University of Madrid, Polytechnic University of Madrid, University of Cádiz, University of Bordeaux, University of Nantes, University of Rennes, University of Parma, University of Bologna, National University, Colombia), University of the North, Colombia, etc.), as well as with various companies and research organisations (Pevafersa, DC-Wafers, Enertis, 3S-Photonics, Alcatel Thales, Solar Force, Thales Research and Technology, Max Born Institute (Germany), IMEM Institute (Italy), Air Force Research Laboratory (USA), etc. Proven teaching ability: co-supervisor of three PhD theses (with a further three in progress), supervisor of numerous undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations, etc. Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Transfer at the University of Valladolid from May 2018 to April 2022.
