Doctor by the Universidad de Navarra with the thesis Las interpretaciones de la arquitectura 1983. Supervised by Dr. Ignacio Araujo Múgica.

Carlos Montes Serrano was born in 1952 in Oviedo (Spain). He graduated in Architecture (1977) and received his PhD (1982) from the University of Navarra. He was Assistant Research in the School of Architecture of Navarra (1982-1985); Tenured Professor in the School of Architecture of the University of Valladolid (1986-1990), and Full Professor (1990-2022) in Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica. He is currently Professor Emeritus. Dean of the School of Architecture of Valladolid (1996-1999) and Head of the Department of Urbanism and Representation of Architecture (2004-2009). Corresponding Academic in Valladolid of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid (1996). He was awarded the 2018 Gold Medal of the Unione Italiana per il Disegno (U.I.D.). He has focused his research on Historiography of Architecture, Spanish Architecture of the Eighteenth Century, and Theory and History of Architectural Representation.
