Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The purpose of this article is to analyse the impact of internationalisation on management models of History of Education (HE) journals and their evolution over the last twenty-five years. METHOD. After having identified 49 periodic publications that specialise in this field, we have detected that only twelve editorial projects (24,49 %) are exclusively dedicated to HE and internationally accredited –indexed in Web of Science and/or Scopus–. Taking these twelve journals as our population, we analyse their performance over the last twenty-five years and the current situation of some aspects directly linked to the internationalisation of HE, such as linguistic policies, geographical origin of the publication or proportion of comparative, inter-national, trans-national or global studies, among others. To this end, research articles published in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 have been taken as the sample. RESULTS. According to the data, there is a progressive increase in the production of articles, especially in the periods 2001-2006 and 2011-2016, with growth rates of 65.95% and 54.34% respectively. There is a group of nine countries whose presence on these specialized journals remain constant. In other words, authors from these countries have published articles every year of the sample of this stu-dy. Besides, there is a gradual increase in the proportion of articles signed by two or more resear-chers, accounting for 29.22% of global production in 2016, although this does not correlate with their international dimension, as few articles result from collaboration among researchers from different countries. DISCUSSION. It is possible to describe the current situation as a global cir-culation of researchers and articles, rather than as internationalisation in how researchers think and address the practice of HE. The expansion of our research focus with new variables will allow to map the global situation of HE better.
