Abstract

This article presents the relationship between the children in the family and employment choices of the female through the data provided by the Labour Force Survey. To achieve this goal two perspectives are adopted: one is the transverse analysis through probit models ordered with a selection bias; the second is longitudinal through the use of fictitious cohorts. The findings conclude that maternity conditions women's working-time, since they prefer to reduce dedication to labour to increase dedication to the family.
