Abstract
This paper explores the possibilities of using artistic representations to learn about the Economic and Social History of pre-industrial Europe. Based on the teaching experience of the authors, five themes of different amplitude are presented and dealt with from various works of art. Obviously, the use of these materials does not exclude the use of others. In each of them, it is highlighted how certain historical problems are easily understandable from the observation of the work of art. Due to its aesthetic values, the allusion to well-known works, or simply because of curiosity, it is likely that the student will be more interested in the subject matter and the topics covered than if he or she uses conventional materials. Their academic performance will, therefore, be much higher
