Abstract

Rural areas are being considered a multifuncional space in which is possible to develop several economic activities, as well as to enjoy peace and rest. In this line, rural tourism has become one of the main attractiveness of these territories. The outstanding growth of the demand of this type of tourism has had answer from the side of the supply, with a notable increment of the number of establishments and of lodging rooms. This productive activity is very important for the improvement of the economic opportunities of rural areas, being part of the performances included in the different public policies of rural development (LEADER and PRODER). In this sense, the objective of this paper consists on analyze the economic and social effects, so much positive as negative, that rural tourism is originating on the rural areas of Castilla y León. It will be analyzed the evolution of cuantitative variables (employment, incoming...) and cualitative variables. Conclusions will be able to the Administrations to designe public strategies for this sector to increase rural development in this areas.
