Our exploratory research focuses on the professional development of foreign languages’ teachers in our national context, according to the European guidelines. We present the contextualized process of the conception and development of a strategic and operational device to generate data on this subject. Adopting a heuristic perspective, it is the result of: a) Enroll it in the traits and characteristics of a questionnaire, to ensure immediacy and confidentiality in data collection and facilitate its subsequent processing. b) Consider that self-efficacy is revealed as a key indicator of professional development perceived, in our case articulated into two complementary indicators: the degree of awareness towards the own teaching professional profile and the self-perceptions (beliefs) shaping the own professional development. c) Apply the canonical phases of quotation, as well as the transposition into categories of analysis and the validation.
