Abstract

In this paper we focus, from an evolutionary standpoint, on some of the issues arising in the so-called mathematical affective domain, taking the rejection of mathematics as our main focal point. Our data, taking as their reference point the results of a logistic regression model, support the existence of a vicious cycle: difficulty - boredom - poor grades - fatalism - low self-perception - demotivation - rejection - difficulty. This analysis therefore supports the theses of those who think that there are relations of mutual dependence between the cognitive and the affective
