Abstract

In the early eleventh century, the diocesan revitalization and restoration of Palencia contributes to the insertion in the kingdom of Leon of the Cluniac spirit which reforms the mentality and organization of the church by the help of the Catalan monasteries and their clergy. With their help and the promotion of Sancho III the Great (king of Pamplona) and his successors on the throne of this kingdom, this spirit begins to spread throughout the Iberian Peninsula. For nearly two centuries both prelates from the restorer, Catalan Ponç, to Arderico Lombard, take their pontifical office, with evocative names of most of the members of their chapter, names which are more common in the Hispanic Brand than in the Castilian land. They will be a reflection in the high middle ages, of the outstanding and amazing presence in the Tierra de Campos land of a large colony of Occitan and franc-catalonians. A fact which allows to europeanize the kingdom and empire of Leon.
