Abstract

The Ecuadorian ‘BuenVivir’institutional discourse about education is far away from the real environment of students and their families, considering the high rate of students dropping out schools. This dysfunctional situation, almost general, has focused our investigation on poverty areas to discover students´ semiotic associations and the context close to its genesis: the immediate family. In this study was used the theory of social representations together with qualitative investigation techniques, that revealed factors taking part in the representation of dropping out school, emphasizing among them the undervaluation of formal education.
