Abstract

During the university courses 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 The Polytechnic College from the University of Valladolid, thorough a group of seven teachers, started up the program “Orienta” a mentoring program for the new students with the objective of helping them in their adaptation to the university studies, getting to know their academic expectations, enhancing their interpersonal communications and helping them along the university year, in essence, make the their first contact with the university world friendlier. In this case, the teachers participating acted as mentors for the new students, however, this experience did not have the levels of participants desired and the program did not continue. Since the course 2015-2016 the renamed Industrial Engineering School has implemented a tutoring program among equals, called Program “Mentor” in which most of the teachers who participated in the “Orienta” program, participate again, where, having the same objectives, the mechanisms for getting them are completely different. On this communication, we analyse and compare both programs showing the key strengths and weaknesses of each of them.
