Abstract
One of Spain’s great objectives during the previous century was accession to the European Communities, but this was a long and diffi-cult process. In addition to internal difficulties within the Community, the French were reluctant to accept a rushed Spanish entry. The main issue was agriculture competence. Faced with this situation, the Span-ish negotiating team attempted to find a solution. This paper analy-ses the origin and evolution of a strategic, economic and political plan that this team developed while in France. This plan sought to modify the French position, and, by so doing, promoted Spanish entry into the Common Market.
