Resumo

This reaction proceeds via an acid catalyzed Sakurai reaction followed by the formation of an oxocarbenium intermediate with a second equivalent of aldehyde. Prins cyclization and subsequent trapping of the pyranyl carbocation by the hydroxyl group generates the major reaction product
