Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis La participación de los estudiantes en la universidad políticas y estrategias para su mejora en el contexto del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior 2016. Supervised by Dr. Gonzalo Jover Olmeda, Dr. Francisco Michavila Pitarch.
José-Luis Parejo has Bachelor's degree in Pedagogy from the University of Salamanca, a Master's in Participatory Research, and a PhD in Theory and History of Education with honors from the Complutense University. Professionally, he has been a scholarship holder and contract researcher at the UNESCO Chair of University Management and Policy at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Additionally, he has served as a technical advisor at the General Secretariat of Universities of the Ministry of Education. He is currently a Associated Professor in the Department of Pedagogy at the University of Valladolid, affiliated with the Faculty of Education in Segovia, and since September 2018, has been the coordinator of external practices at this center and international internships for educational cooperation and development in Ghana. He is a member of the research group "Curriculum and Teacher Training" (ICUFOP) (Hum-267) at the University of Granada. As a visiting professor, he has taught at several foreign universities in Rome, Lisbon, and Ghana, funded by an Erasmus grant. In 2019, he completed a six-month research stay at the IOE, Faculty of Education and Society, University College London (Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Assessment), with a "José Castillejo" grant for young PhDs from the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain, under the supervision of Professor Hugh Starkey. In 2023, he completed a one-month research stay at UNAM, under the supervision of Professor Anita Cecilia Hirsch y Adler and in 2025 at the IBERO University, under the supervision of Dr. Luis Medina-Gual.. His line of research focuses on global citizenship, service-learning, teacher training and educational innovation.
