Doctor by the Universidad de Oviedo with the thesis Estructura, dinámica y tendencias sucesionales en un bosque de roble y haya de la cornisa cantábrica 1999. Supervised by Dr. José Antonio Fernández Prieto.

My research focuses on the effects of disturbances, climatic patterns and global change on tree growth and survival. I use xylem growth rings to assess the effects of climate variability and past management on temperate and Mediterranean forests in Europe, Macaronesia, South America and North Africa. I am also interested in reconstructing past fire regimes and evaluating differential sex behavior in dioecious woody plants.
